Our client, an investment company registered under the Co-operative Act whose main mandate is to carry out investment activities using member's funds based in Nairobi, is seeking to fill the role of Assistant Legal Officer
JOB PURPOSE
To provide structured administrative, procedural, and legal support to the Legal Department in conveyancing, litigation management, corporate governance, and compliance, while ensuring proper record management, regulatory tracking, and file control.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare conveyancing and commercial documents, including letters of offer, sale agreements, transfers, licenses, leases, and service level agreements.
- Maintain and update a tracker for all active conveyancing projects and contracts.
- Open, organize, and maintain transaction files (physical and digital).
- Ensure safe custody, proper filing, and reconciliation of original titles and executed legal documents.
- Conduct legal research on claims, cases, and matters affecting the Society.
- Collect, review, and organize evidence and legal documents for case preparation.
- Track litigation timelines, court dates, and execution processes (including judgments, consents, appeals, and stays).
- Maintain and update the litigation register with key case details.
- Prepare correspondence to external counsel and follow up on case progress and compliance documentation.
- Monitor and summarize relevant legislation, regulations, court decisions, and industry guidelines.
- Respond to client and stakeholder correspondence in a timely and professional manner.
- Assist in preparation and coordination of internal training materials and legal awareness sessions.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
